The guideline development task force consisted of endocrinologists, paediatric endocrinologist, family
medicine specialist, public health physician, general physicians and dietitian.
The previous edition of the Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) on Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) 2009 was used as the basis for the development of this present guideline.

The Development Group for this Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) was from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Higher Education and private sector. They consisted of paediatric endocrinologists, paediatricians, adult endocrinologists, a geriatrician, a family medicine specialist, public health physicians and a pharmacist. There was active involvement of the Review Committee during the process of development of these guidelines.

arrow Practical Guide to Insulin Therapy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

In Malaysia, the Third National Health and Morbidity Survey (3rd NHMS) in 2006 showed that the prevalence of T2DM for adults aged 30 years old and above had risen by almost 80% in the last decade to 14.9%1. In this population survey of those with diabetes, 73.5% attended government health facilities and 20% received treatment from private health facilities.
