UMMC (previously known as University Hospital) has been organizing Diabetes Camp since a very long time ago. The event backdated to 1980’s when diabetes camp was held annually involving both adult and children with diabetes.

The most recent National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) conducted by the Malaysian Ministry of Health in 2011 (NHMS IV) demonstrated a 31% rise in prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) among adults aged 18 or older in the space of 5 years, growing from 11.6% (reported in the 2006 NHMS III ) to 15.2%.

28 May 2014 marked the beginning of most Malaysian children’s favourite time of the year – school holidays! For a special group of children and adolescents, there was something extra to look forward to. It was time once again, for the Young Diabetic Support Group (YDSG) of PPUKM (Pusat Perubatan UKM) to organise their annual diabetes camp.

The Children’s Annual Diabetes Camp University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) was held on the 19th-21st of December 2013 at Avillion Admiral Cove, Port Dickson Negeri Sembilan. The camp was organised by the Paediatric Endocrine Unit UMMC and this year we invited children and young people with diabetes as well as medical professionals from different hospitals in the south of Malaysia to participate in the event.

September 14, 2010 — The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will consider revising the labels of the osteoporosis drugs bisphosphonates in light of a new report stating that long-term bisphosphonate use may increase the risk for unusual femur fracture, the agency announced today.
