Final approval from the Health Technology Assessment Division of MOH was obtained on the 23rd of November 2015. The revised 5th Edition of the CPG introduced the following addition and changes: 1. Using A1c as a screening and diagnostic test for type 2 diabetes mellitus 2. Cardiovascular risk estimation 3. Algorithm for patients on follow-up 4. Algorithm for specific patient’s profiles (normal weight, overweight, obese, prone to hypos, CKD) 5. Table of efficacy of various anti-diabetic agents 6. Management of diabetic emergencies (hypoglycaemia, diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar state with step by step algorithms). 7. Female sexual dysfunction 8. Mental health issues in diabetes 9. Management of diabetes in acute illnesses, stress and surgery 10. Diabetes in special populations (gestational diabetes mellitus, adolescents, elderly, Ramadan) 11. Unproven therapies in type 2 diabetes mellitus Despite the doubling in the number of pages from 73 (4th Edition, 2009) to 140 (5th edition, 2015) we have endeavour to make it thin so that it can be placed in a doctor’s white coat pocket by printing it on high quality very thin papers. So don’t forget to take this opportunity to own a limited edition CPG for T2DM by attending the Opening Ceremony of the 18th AFES Congress. Wassalam / Regards, Azmi |
